Considered the closest thing to the college lacrosse level of play, yet another year of the Under Armour All-American Underclass Tournament is in the books. Philadelphia, who knocked off New Jersey in the championship game 9-7, came away from the weekend as victors, riding the talents of tournament MVP Michael Sowers.
This event has always been critical for my note-gathering process as I get closer to beginning this year’s player rankings, so I attended the event for 90% of its three days (Friday’s report can be seen here). Here’s who caught my eye:
The Under Armour Underclass tournament kicked off on Friday afternoon, pitting 10 regions against each other and showcasing the very best talent that the United States has to offer. DC, Upstate, LI and West all started 2-0, while South and Philadelphia both stand 1-1. Baltimore, New England, New Jersey and Midwest all sit at 0-2 after the first day.
Take a look below for results as look as well as a look at eight players that impressed on Day 1:
Long Island 13, Midwest 5
Upstate NY 11, Baltimore 9
Philadelphia 10, New Jersey 6
Washington DC 13, New England 2
South 11, Baltimore 10 (OT)
West 14, Midwest 7
Upstate NY 14, New England 9
Long Island 10, Philadelphia 8
West 8, New Jersey 7
Washington DC 16, South 7
As tryouts finish up and evaluators and coaches narrow it down to 24 players, the Under Armour underclass event is slowly starting to come to form with the release of more rosters. In the past week, rosters for D.C., Philly, Long Island and Upstate NY have been released, following announcements for the South and Baltimore as well as New Jersey and the West.
Midwest tryouts finished up on Thursday afternoon at Oletangy Liberty HS in Ohio and the roster has just been released this weekend, while New England’s took place on the 23rd at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut and just put out a list of the players that will represent the region. With that, rosters for all 10 teams and the weekend schedule have now been finalized with less than two weeks to go before the event begins.
Under Armour®, Inc. (NYSE: UA) and Corrigan Sports Enterprises announced today the roster of boys who will represent the New Jersey and West regions at the 2015 Under Armour Underclass Lacrosse Tournament. The sport’s most prestigious underclassmen tournament will feature girls and boys teams from Baltimore, Long Island, Midwest, New England, New Jersey, Philadelphia, South, Upstate New York, Washington, D.C., and West and consist of players from the graduating classes of 2016-18.
The event will take place July 3-5 at Johnny Unitas Stadium on the campus of Towson University in Towson, MD. Over the three days, the teams will battle in a 10-team pool play tournament. The weekend is capped off on Sunday afternoon with championships for both the boys and girls regional teams.
