The G3 Lacrosse Goalie of the Week award is intended to honor a goalie that rises to the occasion on the big stage. This time around, Boys’ Latin (Md.) netminder Jack Pezzulla – a North Carolina commit ranked 27th in the senior class – receives the honor after a 24-save week that included two wins over teams placed in the Sideline Swap / RR Top 25 Private School Rankings (view them here).
G3 Lacrosse was founded in 2011 to expand the vision and passion for the game of lacrosse and the goaltending position. The initial focus of G3 is meticulous instruction and development of the goaltender position across the sport. Their mission is to utilize the game of lacrosse to teach young goaltenders about the core values that will serve to lead and influence them long after their lacrosse careers come to an end. The ultimate goal of G3 is to foster an appreciation for the opportunities the game of lacrosse provides and develop an understanding of how lessons learned in this game correlate to life outside of the playing field. In addition to growing the lacrosse player on the field through an array of new, innovative and instructional drills and techniques, G3 Lacrosse also strives to manifest the growth in every young man and woman that has the privilege to play this great game. G3 Lacrosse is directed by current MLL and Division 1 goaltenders & coaches John Galloway, Adam Ghitelman, and Kip Turner.
An alternate for the US U-19 team, Pezzulla is a three-year starter who has been the centerpiece of BL’s recent resurgence after the Lakers suffered a pair tough one-sided losses. On Tuesday afternoon, he corralled a whopping 17 saves to give head coach Brian Farrell and BL a narrow 6-5 victory over then-No. 6 Calvert Hall, a longtime MIAA rival.
Facing a dynamic Cardinals offense full of speed and dangerous shooters, the Lakers elected to go zone to keep CHC’s attack at bay. The strategy worked impeccably as Pezzulla’s defense executed and allowed him to gobble up shot attempts. Calvert Hall made it 6-5 in the fourth quarter after the Lakers held a lead for most of the game but unfortunately for them, the acrobatic and athletic Pezzulla was on. With a few seconds left in the game, he made a sprawling kick save to fend them off and take home a big win in a contest that can be viewed in its entirety here.
“I’m not gonna lie, I was nervous but in practice we train for these types of situations,” Pezzulla said after the game. “When we come out here and it’s 6-5 with two minutes left and we’re man down, that’s the stuff that we live for.”
He followed that performance up with an eight-save outing in an 8-7 victory at Severn after trailing 5-0 after the first quarter. The Lakers will face Mt. St. Joe on Tuesday.
