The Rundown: Verbals to UNC, Maryland, Loyola, Penn State, Brown, Navy, Air Force & more

There are 17 new commitments to report in today’s Rundown, with verbals to a plethora of different schools, including decisions to play in the ACC, Big 10, Ivy League, Patriot League, Big East, CAA, SoCon and NEC. It’s a phenomenal midfield class in the rising sophomore group and a number of top middies have finalized commitments in the past two weeks. Other storylines include a top Canadian 2017 bound for Carolina as well as additional commits for new program Cleveland State and touted 2016’s to Penn State and Navy, among others. 2018’s

Kevin Hussey, M, Smithtown East (N.Y.) / LI Express has committed to the admissions process at Brown. Hussey was written up at the Philly Freshman Showcase and Big 4 Champion’s League in November, attending tournaments with LI Express this summer as well as Maverik Showtime, Nike Blue Chip and NHSLS.  The 6-foot, 180-pound recruit chose the Bears after considering Cornell, Yale, Georgetown and Michigan.

Liam Bateman, M, Loyola Blakefield (Md.) / FCA has committed to Loyola. Though naturally an attackman, Bateman made the switch and ran second midfield with two other 2018’s for the Dons. This summer, the 6-foot, 175-pound recruit attended Nike Blue Chip, Crabfeast, UA Shootout and U-15 Nationals. Also plays volleyball and basketball. He strongly considered Maryland, Towson and Navy.

Kyle Steinbach, M/FO, Garden City (N.Y.) / GC34 has committed to Maryland. The 6’1, 160-pound two-sport athlete (also wrestles) played locally for GC34, also participating in the Nassau/Suffolk Game, Philly Showcase and Nike Blue Chip. He chose the Terps after visiting Bucknell, Fairfield, Hofstra, UVA, Penn and Michigan.

Christian Trahan, M/FO, Bishop Guertin (N.H.) / NH Tomahawks has committed to UMass. A class of 2017 graduate, Trahan plans to do a PG year before heading to UMass. He recently attended SweetLax Invitational and NSCLA Warrior Cup, picking up All-Star Game appearances at the Legacy Invitational and Philly Invitational.

Coston Pendleton, A, Vandegrift (Tex.) / Dallas Select has committed to Furman. Written up here after his Texas Top 99 performance, Pendleton also made the All-Star Game at King of the Hill, Gait Cup and UNC Team Camp. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound Paladin recruit also runs cross country. He also visited and considered both High Point and Bellarmine.

2017’s

Kyle Kolwich, D, Holy Trinity (Ont.) / Edge has committed to North Carolina. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound lefty attended NSCLA, Crab City Challenge, All Canada Games and UMass Mid-Summer Classic. He visited Princeton and Canisius before pulling the trigger and selecting the Tar Heels on August 4th.

Jordan Pakzad, LSM/D, Corona del Mar (Calif.) / West Coast Starz has committed to St. Joseph’s. Finishing 18-1 this season with the Sea Kings, Pakzad was one of just three underclassmen to earn All-County honorable mention honors. In the summer, he played in the All-Star in all events that had one, playing at Platinum Cup, DU Ascension Camp, Super Sophs, Champ Camp, All West Showcase and Pacific Lacrosse Festival. He also strongly considered Maryland before choosing the Hawks.

Kyle Souza, LSM, San Ramon Valley (Calif.) / 3d NorCal has committed to Marquette. This summer, Souza attended the Denver Shootout, Maverik Showtime, FLG in 3d and King of the Hill. He chose the Golden Eagles after considering Villanova and Navy.

Garrett Moya, A, Huntington (N.Y.) / LI Outlaws has committed to Marquette. Playing this summer with the LI Outlaws, he attended the Under Armour Shootout, IL Invitational, Crimson Classic, NSCLA and Crabfeast. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound athlete also plays football, choosing Marquette after looks from Brown, Towson, Marist, Binghamton and Furman.

Stuart Greenspon, A/M, Episcopal (Va.) / Rock has committed to Hobart. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound athlete also plays basketball, deciding on Hobart earlier this week after looking at Lehigh, Colgate, Army and Navy. His highlight reel can be seen here.

Matt Paul, A, Rivers School (Mass.) / Fighting Clams has committed to the admissions process at Dartmouth. After finishing second on the team with 50 points, Paul attended the Under Armour Uncommitted Game, SweetLax Invitational, UA Shootout, NSCLA and Prep School Showcase this summer. Also played hockey for Rivers in one of the nation’s top leagues. Paul considered Villanova and Lafayette before deciding on the Big Green.

Chris Connolly, A, Trinity-Pawling (N.Y.) / D-Squared has committed to UMass. A native of Glastonbury, he’ll be transferring to TP from Xaverian (Conn.), where Connolly put up 52 goals and 59 assists in the spring. In addition to club team events, he attended Maverik Showtime, New England UA tryouts and NHSLS. Also considered Providence, High Point and Vermont.

2016’s

Danny Pagano, LSM/D, Dwyer (Fla.) / Palm Beach Revolution has committed to Air Force. Playing varsity lacrosse since his freshman year, the 6-foot-4, 195-pound Pagano was a team captain this past spring. He had a successful summer with the Revolution, making the Baltimore Summer Kickoff All-Star Game and also attending Nike Blue Chip on his own. Pagano chose Air Force after considering High Point, Stevenson, Salisbury and Pace.

Colby Kneese, G, Highland Park (Tex.) / C2C has committed to Penn State. After leading the Scots to a Texas state championship and earning All-American honors, Kneese had a successful summer with C2C that included an All-Star Game appearance at UNC Team Camp, also attending NHSLS with Highland Park. The 5’10, 175-pound keeper also considered Loyola and North Carolina.

Adam Close, A/M, Wilson (Pa.) / LI Sting has committed to Boston University. Making the All-Star Game at UNC Team Camp and MVP Delaware, Close also attended the National 175 and Under Armour Shootout. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound recruit put up 49 goals and 18 assists to earn 1st team All-Berks County honors from the midfield, also playing DB & WR on the varsity football squad. He chose the Terriers after looking at Franklin & Marshall, Lafayette and Colgate.

Luke Dennen, A/M, Cathedral (Ind.) has committed to Navy. Dennen capped off his summer with an excellent campaign that caused him to get written up at the Twin Cities Showcase, following more All-Star Game appearances at the IL Invitational and Battle of the Hotbeds. Noah Gleeson, M, Dublin Coffman (Oh.) / Haymakers has committed to Cleveland State. This summer, he attended Baltimore Summer Kickoff, Gait Cup and FLG in 3d. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound recruit also plays basketball, eventually choosing the Vikings over Denison, Mount St. Mary’s, Lynchburg and Ohio Wesleyan.

Jake Leitch, M, Carmel (Ind.) / Titanium has committed to Cleveland State. Helping his team win state championships the last two years, Leitch was a 2nd team All-Conference pick with 33 points and 72 groundballs, also making the UA Midwest team this summer. Though just 5’6 and 175 pounds, he also plays safety on the football team. Before deciding on CSU, Leitch visited RIT, Ohio Wesleyan and Seton Hill, also considering Robert Morris.
