Today’s featured highlight reel is three-sport athlete David Peterson, a 6-1, 175-pound sophomore coached in both club and high school by 2003 Tewaaraton winner Chris Rotelli. At this point in the process, he’s one of the top uncommitted 2017 defensemen in the entire country, standing out at some of the more elite tournaments in the summer and fall.
An excellent 1-on-1 cover man, he demonstrates outstanding footwork and uses his stick well to disrupt his assignment from generating any offense. Peterson plays excellent position defense, sticks his nose in the dirt for tough GB’s and is an asset in the clearing game. Several college coaches I’ve talked to (he’s getting looks from the Ivy League, ACC and Patriot League) love his physicality, athleticism and IQ on the defensive end.
He’ll visit several schools in February in between his basketball and lacrosse schedules. From what I’ve seen on the field, he’ll fit in just about anywhere, plus he has excellent grades to back up all of his looks.
In the fall, Peterson earned mentions at the Adrenaline Fall Invitational and Philly Showcase, even after flying on red eye flights across the country once his Friday football games ended. This summer, he has plans to attend the NSCLA National Cup, IL Invitational, Maverik Showtime and Adrenaline Shootout, among others.
