US Lax Events is proud to announce the rosters for this weekend’s two-day Midwest Elite Top 80. A total of 320 players – the top 80 from each graduating class – are set to gather at the gorgeous facilities of Grand Park in Westfield (Ind.) with college coaches leading each team on the four turf fields. Each team will be guaranteed four games with the chance to play in an All-Star Game, selected by coaches and the US Lax Events’ staff.
A first year event, the Midwest Elite Top 80 was created to bring the Midwest, which lacks recruiting events for the most part, a chance to showcase their skills in front of a few dozen college coaches. Recruiting Rundown is excited to have freelance coverage of the event.
“The talent is out here and we feel as though some of these kids may not get the looks that they deserve, so we tried to get the most skilled players from the Midwest,” says Shane Andersen, the Director of Operations for US Lax Events and a former player at Bellarmine under the late Jack McGetrick. “We felt like this is a central location, attracting kids from Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana and a few other areas. The goal is to make this a yearly staple of the Midwest from a recruiting perspective.”
There’s a heavy influence from clubs like True Lacrosse, Titanium, Bluegrass Elite and even some of the committed prospects from Culver Military Academy, who finished No. 2 in last year’s national HS rankings. For the region, it’s an uniquely styled showcase event that could take off with a successful year.
“It’s our hope to show not only the college coaches from the area, but also these kids from other states, just how many college prospects exist in this part of the country,” Andersen says. “It gets the kids away from the same sort of team-based tournament and allows them to build chemistry with players from other areas. Everything’s in line for these kids to have fun and get exposure.”
