During the recruiting process, every prospect wants to feel the love from the schools who pursue them. There are a number of ways that programs are able to do so, although it’s mostly done in the early stages and on the football side. This week, however, we saw a big step forward in lacrosse.
With National Signing Week taking place, Ohio State head coach Nick Myers raised the bar a good bit, as the Buckeyes’ athletic department created sick custom graphics for each of their signees once their NLI came through the fax machine. Then, Myers would tweet them out individually with a “Welcome to the Buckeye Family” and the recruit’s name, seeing massive amounts of favorites and retweets.
Those are the type of resources that football powerhouses are able to take advantage of. In fact, OSU has their own athletic department graphic designer profiled here, as well as a Director of Creative Services in Andy DeVito, who created the graphics.
Programs like Tennessee are even photoshopping prospects onto Rolling Stone covers next to Beyonce. Georgia, meanwhile, photoshops recruits onto graphics with NFL Draft guru Todd McShay and his ESPN Big Board.
This week, Ohio State pumped out graphics for each of their signees, accompanied by links to their highlight videos. If I was a betting man, I would say that plenty of lacrosse programs will join in on this trend in coming years.
